This chapter discusses and examines the various possibilities of a future national identity. Nation building can be based on nationalist principles, such as cultural, ethnic, historical, political, or liberalist nationalist principles. Although liberal nationalism seems most appealing to most people, the People's Republic of China, a Taiwan Republic, and the Republic of China are all ill-equipped to accommodate liberal nationalist demands.
