The chapter takes the reader into middle of the action, when Sirén was photographing in the Forbidden City in 1922. During this excursion, he unexpectedly met Puyi, the Last Emperor, who then acted as Sirén’s guide for finding the most appropriate views to photograph. This is a pivotal moment in Sirén’s career and is an enticing beginning for the story.
