After working for few years in the museum at the Nationalmuseum, Sirén was able to convince his superior Axel Gauffin that a museum which wished to follow its time needed acquiring Asian art. Thus, funds were then secured; Sirén travelled to China and Japan again in 1929 for his third voyage. He was mostly looking for Chinese sculpture and smaller antique objects, but was also making forays into Chinese painting.
