The ‘Modern’ Construction of Postcolonial Singapore
This chapter focuses on the discourses of Lee Kuan Yew and two of his cabinet members, Dr. Goh Keng Swee who worked alternatively as finance, national development, and defence minister; and S. Rajaratnam, who served as the minister of culture and foreign affairs in maintaining and forwarding the modernization of Singapore. All of these people worked for the modernization of Singapore during the country's formative years of 1959 to the early 1970s.
