This chapter examines the implications of the notion of “Generic City” through the lens of urban youth films from postwar Japan and Hong Kong. It studies the ideological register of urban spatiality at the interwoven global and local levels based on two films: the Japanese Taiy ōzoku film Crazed Fruit (1956), based on Ishihara Shintar ō's fiction of the same title, and its Hong Kong remake Summer Heat in 1968.
