This chapter discusses a summary of three interlocking events that changed the course of the history of Hong Kong. The first was the wave of emigration to the countries of the New World, followed by the discovery of gold in California. The last event was the Taiping uprising. In each of these events, those people living in Hong Kong and who were at rest in the Cemetery played important roles.
