This chapter examines the military defenses of Macau during the twentieth century. During this period, the Portuguese continued trying to expand their Macau territory and the military also expanded their presence northwards and the Flora Barracks were expanded. The Portuguese established an arsenal at the Rua da Fonte da Inveja, close to the Flora Garden which was part of a military complex that included the Flora Barracks and a firing range.
