The writer provides a critical development of ‘the AWARE saga’ to consider the intersections of sex, sexuality, religion and education. Using media reporting, the writer shows the major role of the State to shape the lives of the citizens, and where sex comes under the purview of the State in the areas of criminal law and welfare policy. He further examines the practices that surround the event as reflective of the liberal and illiberal nation state.
