The Chinese were increasingly attacked by Westerners for many undeserved reasons, and Wong Chin Foo was resolved to refute the widespread image of Chinese as godless and depraved. Wong also proclaimed himself the first missionary to the United States. Apparently Wong had not completely broken from Christianity, and it continued to seize his attention and remained the focus of his lectures.
