Less than a week after the loss of Poseidon, a court of enquiry was convened aboard the flotilla’s depot ship, HMS Medway. The court sought to find answers to the following questions: What was the cause of the collision? Were all possible steps taken to keep the vessel afloat after the collision? Were all possible steps taken to save life? Was the conduct of all concerned in the usual standards of the Royal Navy? The court convened on June 15. As expected, Galpin appeared as the first witness.
